Caterina Marchiano

GIRLS SOCCER
Greencastle-Antrim 4, Waynesboro 0: The Blue Devils won their fourth straight game — all by shutout — with a blanking of rival Waynesboro in a Mid Penn Colonial matchup Monday night in Waynesboro.

“Our keeper (Lexi Nelson, 9 saves) made great saves, the defense was strong and our midfielders kept the backs and forwards connected,” Greencastle coach Jamie Coy said. “My bench gives me depth and options and I can rely on them.

“We have great leadership on the field, and the girls played together as an entire team. I’m proud of their performance tonight.”

Braelyn Cordell stayed hot on the attack with two more goals for the Blue Devils (5-1, 4-0 MPC), while Cat Marchiano opened the scoring and Shaina Overcash booted in a penalty kick. Bailey Hurley and Maddie Koons each contributed an assist.

Emma Pool

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Greencastle-Antrim 3, Waynesboro 0: The Blue Devils continued their streak of shutouts to 6, putting together games of 25-15, 25-16 and 25-19 to hand the rival Maidens a Mid Penn Colonial loss Monday night at home.

“The team worked really well together to get the job done against a really good team,” G-A coach Madee Goodwin said.

For Greencastle (6-0, 5-0 MPC), Abby Eagler led with 12 kills and 17 digs, and had a 2.9 pass rate (on a scale of 3.0). Kylie Kerns put up 4 kills, 8 service points (4 aces), 7 digs and 15 assists.

Alaina Garling filled the scorebook with 5 kills, 4 blocks, 7 digs and 9 assists.

Wren Roberts won 17 points on her serve, and added 7 digs. Emma Pool led with 5 blocks, Masalyna Miller had 6 points and Morgan Kline also had 6 points.

Nolan Sullivan

BOYS SOCCER
Waynesboro 3, Greencastle-Antrim 2: The Blue Devils fell behind 2-1 in the first half and had trouble getting through the Indians’ defense in a Mid Penn Colonial defeat at Kaley Field on Monday afternoon.

G-A coach Tim Carey said, “We sent a message at halftime, and the boys answered the call for certain. In the second half the ball was in ‘Boro’s end 80% of the time, but they had so many numbers behind the ball it was hard to maintain possession. They payed long balls to get out of trouble.”

Nolan Sullivan found the back of the net twice for Greencastle (2-4, 2-3 MPC), with assists going to Garrett Oberholzer and Eli Christophel.

G-A led in shots (19-11) and corner kicks (6-3) and goalkeeper Joe Lofton made 5 saves.

Carlee Knepper

FIELD HOCKEY
Biglerville 5, Greencastle-Antrim 0: The Blue Devils had some highlights, but suffered a non-league loss to the Canners on Monday evening in Biglerville.

Greencastle (1-3) defended 15 penalty corners and 13 resulted in no goals for the Canners. Goalie Rebecca Jones recorded 7 saves.

“The entire team came together and shut down the other team in the fourth quarter,” G-A coach Keara Allshouse said, “and continued to put forth their best effort.

“Our midfield (Carlee Knepper, Aiyanna Gonyea and Abigail Kielek) played a really good game, constantly recovering on defense and pushing up to support their forwards.”
