G-A roundup: Soccer teams both shut out Huskies

BOYS SOCCER
Greencastle-Antrim 4, Mifflin County 0: The Blue Devils scored a pair of goals in each half in Lewistown to pick up a Mid Penn Colonial shutout victory Thursday afternoon.

Cooper Noblit scored the first goal after a pass from Eli Christophel, then made it 2-0 by converting a penalty kick. In the second half, Mason DeVaughn hit the net, assisted by Garrett Overholzer, and Logan ANdou scored the final tally after a pass from Caleb Noll.

“The kids continue to learn their roles and responsibilities,” G-A coach Tim Carey said. “The evidence of change is pretty clear — we gave up 13 goals in our first two games and one goal in the past two. Our goal this week was to get to .500, so mission accomplished.”

Greencastle (2-2, 2-1 MPC) piled up 22 shots to 3 for the Huskies and 8-2 in corners. Joe Lofton made 2 saves.

GIRLS SOCCER
Greencastle-Antrim 2, Mifflin County 0:  Braelyn Cordell continued her run of scoring goals and the Blue Devils blanked the Huskies in a Mid Penn Colonial matchup at Kaley Field on Thursday evening.

Cordell scored both of Greencastle’s goals and has now scored in 4 of her team’s 5 games. Riley Burns assisted on the first goal and the second was unassisted.

Lexi Nelson made 3 saves to preserve the shutout for the Blue Devils.

G-A coach Jamie Coy said, “The Mifflin keeper played an amazing game, making 15 saves.”

Greencastle-Antrim 3, Gettysburg 0: The Blue Devils ran their record to 4-0 (4-0 MPC) with a 3-set victory at Gettysburg in a Mid Penn Colonial contest on Thursday night.

G-A captured wins of 25-13, 25-22 and 25-17.

Alaina Garling had a big night for Greencastle, including 5 kills, 13 service points, 2 blocks, 9 digs and 8 assists.

Kylie Kerns posted 7 kills, 9 points (with 3 aces), 8 digs and 20 assists. Abby Eagler led in kills with 9 and also had 9 digs, Morgan Kline had 8 points and 13 digs. Also, while Masalyna Miller had 9 points (with 3 aces), Emma Pool had 2 blocks and Wren Roberts contributed 5 kills.
