Greencastle falls in opening round of the Pennsylvania State Little League Tournament

Council Rock Newton jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first, never relinquished that lead, and went on to defeat Greencastle 9-4 Wednesday night at Newville. The loss dropped Greencastle to the elimination bracket.

Council Rock jumped on Greencastle to take a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

Greencastle cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the first inning. Kolston Piper hit the first pitch for a single and came around to score on a double from Noah Ambrose to score Greencastle’s first run. Bryce King singled home Ambrose to make it 3-2.

Sav Longo blasted a 3-run homer in the third to give Council Rock Newtown a 6-2 lead. Council Rock Newtown added two more in the top of the fourth to go up 8-2

Noah Ambrose hit a 2-run homer in the bottom of the fourth to make it 8-4.

Ambrose went 2 for 2 and drove in three runs to lead Greencastle.

Lungo went the first 2 1/3 innings for Council Rock Newtown, and all seven outs were strikeouts.

Greencastle will play Section 1 champion St. Mary’s on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. at Newville. St. Mary’s lost to Northern Lebanon 3-0 in seven innings.
