Greencastle wins Section 7 Championship, clinches state berth

The Greencastle 10-12 All-Stars defeated East Side 10-0 at Reading Friday night to win the Section 7 Championship and advance to the Pennsylvania State Championship in Newvile July 24-29.

It went down to a winner-take-all game, as East Side defeated Greencastle 3-0 in the first game to force the deciding game.

Maze Gordon pitched a two-hit shutout, walking one and striking out one to gain the victory. Gordon was supported by a stellar Greencastle defense.

Chase Cordell, Jake Stephens, and Reed Sholes had two hits each for Greencastle.

Greencastle had four extra-base hits, including a pair of doubles by Sholes. Cordell and Kolston Piper each had a triple.

In the first game, East Side left-hander Jackson Russell was brilliant, limiting the high-powered Greencastle offense to just two hits, did not walk a batter, and recorded 11 strikeouts in a 3-0 East Side win.

Greencastle will open state play Wednesday night at 8:00 p.m. against Section 6 Champion Council Rock Newtown at Newville.
