Greencastle defeated East Side Monday afternoon at Rotary Park in Reading 8-5 to move to the Section 7 championship game on Wednesday night.
Greencastle took the lead in the top of the first 2-0 and never trailed in the game to improve to 8-0 in tournament play.
Kolston Piper led off the game with a base hit, stole second, and came around to score on Bryce King’s RBI single to give Greencastle a quick 1-0 lead. Chase Cordell then singled, scoring King to put Greencastle up 2-0.
East Side picked up a run in the bottom of the first on a double steal to make it 2-1.
Greencastle made it 3-1 on a Jake Stephens single and then went ahead 5-1 on a two-run single from Greer Barkdoll in the second inning.
East Side scored three runs in the bottom of the third to make it a 5-4 game.
Greencastle came right back with two in the top of the fourth on an Asher Horst single and an East Side error to make it 7-4.
A groundout by Kling in the fifth inning put Greencastle up 8-4.
Greencastle had 11 singles in the game. Kolston Piper led Greencastle with two hits. King, Stephens, and Barkdoll had 2 RBI each.
Maze Gordon, Piper, and King pitched for Greencastle and combined allowed East Side seven hits and five runs, only of which were earned, five strikeouts, and did not allow a walk.
NOTES: Dillsburg held off a Warwick comeback in the second game on Monday to eliminate Warwick with a 7-5 win. Dillsburg will now play East Side on Tuesday night in an elimination game. The winner will play Greencastle on Wednesday for the Section 7 Championship, scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. start at Rotary Park in Reading. If necessary, a deciding game would be played on Thursday.
