After sitting out an over four-hour rain delay, Greencastle picked up right where they left off in pool play and district play, erupting for 19 runs and defeating Warwick 19-1 Sunday night in the Section 7 Little League tournament opening round at Rotary Park in Reading.
They will now play East Side, which defeated Dillsburg 7-2, and play Monday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Note that the game was moved up three hours due to possible thunderstorms in the Reading area.
Greencastle scored a run in the first inning, then nine two-out runs in the second inning, and added nine more in the third to cruise to their seventh straight win. The game ended on the 15-run rule after three innings.
Greencastle batted around with their 12-player lineup in the second and third innings.
Ethan Allen was 3 for 3 for Greencastle, with 2 RBI, and Brody Sprauge and Reed Sholes each went 2 for 2 with 3 RBI. Bryce King was 1 for 3 with 3 RBI.
Kolston Piper, Sprague, and Sholes all had two hits for Greencastle.
Allen, Sholes, and Noah Ambrose collected a double, and Chase Cordell and Piper tripled, leading Greencastle’s 14-hit attack.
Warwick committed seven errors in the game.
Bryce King, Asher Horst and Chase Cordell pitched for Greencastle and combined to hold Warwick to one run on three hits.
Greencastle has scored 103 runs and has 102 hits in seven games.
Greencastle is two wins away from qualifying for the Pennsylvania State Tournament.
Monday’s game will be broadcast on Mid Penn Broadcasting, beginning with the pregame show at 1:45.
