20 hit attack powers Greencastle to a 14-2 win over Newville

Greencastle 10-12 International All-Stars pounded out 20 hits with everyone in the Greencastle lineup collecting at least one hit, defeating Newville 14-2 Wednesday night at Clary Field to earn a berth in the District 14 Championship game against either Newville or Pen Mar Saturday at Pen Mar at 11:00 a.m.

The win was the fifth straight for Greencastle and snapped Newville’s four-game winning streak

Pen Mar eliminated Carlisle with a 7-5 win and will play an elimination game with Newville on Friday night.

Greencastle scored first in the top of the second on back-to-back doubles from Mayze Gordon and Asher Horst to take a 1-0 lead.

Newville answered with two runs in the bottom of the second, taking a 2-1 lead on an RBI single by Parker Holtry and a bases-loaded walk to Parker Allen.

Greencastle took the lead for good in the top of the third on a two-run double by Ryan Emert and a two-run single by Bryce King to take a 5-2 lead.

Greencastle made it 7-2 in the top of the fourth on an RBI double by Brody Sprague and an error by Newville. Greer Barkdoll reached on an error, scoring Sprague to make it 8-2.

Noah Ambrose homered for Greencastle in the top of the fifth to give Greencastle an 8-2 lead.

Greencastle added five runs in the top of the sixth on an RBI single from Ethan Allen, a run-scoring single by Ryan Emert, an RBI double by Kolston Piper, an RBI single by Bryce King, and three Newville errors to make it 14-2.

Greencastle piled up 20 hits in the game. Piper went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Greencastle King, and Emlet drove in three runs. Barkdoll, Gordon, Allen, and Horst each collected multiple hits for Greencastle. Piper stole two bases. Greencastle turned one double play in the game.

Grayson Piper had two hits for Newville.

Piper earned the win for Greencastle, allowing six hits and two runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out six and walking one.

With a win on Saturday, Greencastle would clinch the District 14 Championship and advance to the Section 7 tournament in Reading from July 14 to 18.
