Fannett-Metal Wins 8th Game in a Row With Victory Over Everett

For the second consecutive night the Tigers beat the Warriors in a close ICC league matchup.   The victory runs the Tigers winning streak to eight after starting the season with a record of 1-3.

The Tigers got on the board early scoring three first inning runs off Warrior’s righty Owen Whitfield.  Drew Goshorn led off with a double and Jake Coffman followed with a single moving Goshorn to third.  Goshorn scored on a double steal when the Warriors Ian Klahre attempted to throw out Coffman at second.  After an out Wade Appleby launched a double to the fence scoring Coffman.  Appleby scored on Daxten Detweiler’s RBI single.

The Warriors got an unearned run in the second inning, their only run of the game off Tiger Starter Wade Appleby.  The Tigers had two defensive miscues in the inning.  Appleby got a big strikeout with two runners in scoring position to end the threat.

The Tigers added a run in the third with some good base running and a timely hit.  Tucker Seibert reached on an error.  He eventually swiped second and scored on Drew Goshorn’s RBI single to make it 4-1.  Appleby closed out the Warriors in the last three innings to secure the win.

Appleby pitched a complete game allowing only one unearned run.  He scattered six hits and worked around four Tigers errors.  He had six strikeouts, no walks and one hit batter.  It was the third complete game of the season for the Tiger right hander.

Defensively Tiger’s  shortstop Landon Arnold made a couple great plays at short to steal a few hits from the Warriors. Noah Naugle made a nice diving catch in right field.  Catcher Drew Goshorn threw out a base runner early in the game to set the tone.  Center fielder Jake Coffman threw out a Warrior base runner to end the game.

The Tigers will play in the Altoona Curve Invitational Tournament on Thursday and Friday.  “This is a great opportunity for our guys to play in a beautiful ball park, and I know they are really looking forward to it”, Coffman said.   Their first game is against Blacklick Valley at 3:00 on Thursday.
