Southern Fulton Indians Defeat Rappahannock with another comeback win

Ethan Powell collected three hits in four at bats as Southern Fulton (6-0, 2-0) defeated the Rappahannock Raiders (6-2) 10-8 on Saturday afternoon in Rappahannock, Va.

Powell singled in the seventh inning, singled in the fourth inning, and singled in the sixth inning. The Indians rallied for the victory despite trailing 4-0 in the first, for the second time in two days!

Rappahannock opened the scoring in the bottom of the first thanks to three consecutive singles, a walk, and another single.

Southern Fulton kept battling and were able to capture the lead, 6-4, in the top of the fourth when an error scored two runs, Paul Hendershot grounded out, scoring one run, and Jett Burger singled, scoring one.  A Rappahannock single tied the game at six in the bottom of the sixth.

Southern Fulton answered again and made the score 10-6 in the top of the seventh after Joel Fitz singled, scoring one run, Powell singled, scoring one run, and Jett Burger hit into a fielder’s choice, scoring two runs.

Owen Oakman earned the win for Southern Fulton. The Sophomore righty pitched five innings, giving up three hits and four runs (two earned), striking out three and walking three. Reece Schefflien took the loss for Rappahannock. He pitched three and two-thirds innings, surrendering six runs (two earned) on eight hits and striking out one.

Ethan Mellott began the game for Southern Fulton. The senior right-handed pitcher allowed six hits and four runs (one earned) over two innings, striking out three and walking two.

The Indians collected 13 hits in the game. Jett Burger led Southern Fulton with three runs batted in. Joel Fitz and Paul Hendershot each collected multiple hits for the Indians.  Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying seven walks for the game. Powell and Mellott each stole multiple bases for Southern Fulton, while the Indians stole six bases in the game.

The Indians head to Fannett-Metal on Tuesday to take on the Tigers in a pivotal ICC South matchup.
