Greencastle-Antrim 15, James Buchanan 5: The Blue Devils put together a pair of 6-run innings and defeated the Rockets in a Mid Penn Colonial matchup at home Thursday afternoon.

Greencastle (4-0, 2-0 MPC) jumped on the Rockets’ pitching for six runs in the bottom of the first and again in the fourth inning.

The highlight of the day for the Blue Devils was that senior Makayla Jerin picked up her 100th career base hit.

Leadoff batter Caroline Logsdon had a productive game for the Blue Devils, going 2-for-3 with a walk and 3 runs batted in. Meadow Gambacurta and Kylie Kerns each were 2-for-5 with a pair of RBIs and Kaiden Zimmerman also chased in 2 runs.

The GA offense drew 8 walks and James Buchanan was charged with 10 errors.

Paiton Gordon picked up the win in her varsity pitching debut, going 4 innings, allowing 2 hits, 2 runs, 6 walks and 4 strikeouts. Kiersten Swain also pitched 2 innings and gave up 3 runs on 3 hits.

For the Rockets (1-2, 0-2 MPC), Danielle Paison had 2 hits in 3 at-bats and drove in 3 runs.

James Buchanan 5, Greencastle-Antrim 3: A 4-run fourth inning by the unbeaten Rockets proved to be the difference in a Mid Penn Colonial victory in Mercersburg on Thursday afternoon.

James Buchanan (4-0, 2-0 MPC) got to Avery Horst for four runs, two scoring on bases-loaded walks, and two coming across the plate when Parker Summers hit a bouncer over the first baseman’s head with the infield drawn in.

“JB has earned this (4-0 start) — they took their lumps over the last couple of years,” Greencastle coach Eric Shaner said. “I told our guys that this was our best-played game yet, but they still beat us. We showed a lot of life.”

The Blue Devils (2-2, 1-1 MPC) scored two runs in the fifth inning when JD Flynn singled, Parker Funk walked and Briggs Remenick doubled into the left-center gap. Their other run came in the sixth on singles by Carter McCauley and Logan Shifflett, a sac bunt by Flynn and a base hit by Jarek Szflarski.

Jimmy Bell cracked a solo home run for JB in the fifth inning.

Drew Crouse earned the win with 5 innings of work for the Rockets, and Trey Daugherty got a save with 2 innings of scoreless ball. Avery Horst suffered the defeat.
