Southern Fulton comes back to win D5 opening round game

Southern Fulton traveled to Salisbury Elk Lick for the first round of the PIAA District 5 playoffs on Thursday night, with the Indians pulling out a 44 to 43 win.

Southern Fulton (14-9), was tied with the Elks 7 to 7 after the first quarter and trailed by 3 at the half.

The Indians were still trailing by 4 points with just a little over a minute remaining when Hunter Ward hit a 3 to cut the Salisbury lead to 1.

After a Southern Fulton steal, the Indians got a couple shots at the basket with an offensive rebound and put back, by Sammy Stotler with 16 seconds left gave them their first lead since the second quarter.

The Indians then again got a steal, and closed out the game.

SF Coach Jeremy Hann commented “We did not shoot well as a team tonight and that continued to haunt us as the game went on.  Trentin Cain did play well though, he shot and rebounded well, keeping us in it, and allowing our defense to finally take over at the end.”

Southern Fulton was led by Ethan Mellott with 16 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 4 steals.  Trentin Cain had 12 points, 13 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals.  Hunter Ward had 7 points, 3 assists, and 4 steals.  Sammy Stotler had 6 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals.  Jett Burger added 3 points, and 11 rebounds.

Southern Fulton will now play at Berlin Brothersvalley, in the PIAA District 5 semi-finals, Tuesday, February 27th.
