McConnellsburg played their crosstown town rival, Southern Fulton, in an ICC South division contest on Friday evening, with the Spartans winning 53 to 30. The Indians (12-9, 5-3 ICC South) trailed 17 to 7 after the first quarter and cruised to the victory.
SF Coach Jeremy Hann commented, “They came out and played with more intensity and desire than we did. Both teams had something to play for, but obviously they wanted it more”.
Spartans coach Joshua Lowery said, “This one was special, considering the winner of this game clinched first place in the ICC South. From the start, we came out rolling in rhythm, and we kept our pace the whole game, defeating the Indians on the home court 53-30 and clinching the ICC South.”
Leading scorers for the Spartans were Dom Jefferson 24 points, 3 steals, 1 assist, Brayden Ramsey 10 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, 3 blocks, Drew Mellott 9 points, 4 steals, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, Hoyt Glenn 5 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals, 1 block, Shaffer Early 3 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 assists, 1 block, 1 charge taken, Kade Gress 2 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal
Southern Fulton was led by Ethan Mellott with 7 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Hunter Ward had 7 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals. Trentin Cain had 5 points, and 5 rebounds. Gaven Mellott had 5 points and 4 rebounds. Sam Stotler added 4 points.
Southern Fulton will play Meyersdale on Tuesday night, in an ICC Inter-division matchup.
