Southern Fulton and McConnellsburg faced off in an ICC South matchup on Saturday afternoon with the Spartans winning 36 to 34.
The Indians (7-6, 2-2 ICC South) took an 18 to 17 lead to the half on a Sammy Stotler 3-pointer at the buzzer.
The Spartans then outscored Southern Fulton 13 to 4 in the 3rd, taking a 30 to 24 advantage into the 4th.
In the 4th quarter, the Indians stormed back with 3-pointers by Stotler and Hunter Ward, and by turning up the defensive pressure. After Ethan Mellott knocked down 2 foul shots to tie the game with under 20 seconds to go, McConnellsburg’s Drew Mellott got into the paint and knocked down a basket to take a 2-point lead. The Indians advanced the ball and, after a timeout, could not score as the Spartans came away with a hard-fought victory.
Southern Fulton was led by Ethan Mellott with 11 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Sam Stotler had 10 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 steals. Hunter Ward had 7 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals. Paul Hendershot had 2 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. Trentin Cain added 4 points while Jett Burger chipped in 4 rebounds.
McConnellsburg was led by Dom Jefferson with 17 points.
After 9 games in a row on the road, Southern Fulton plays Claysburg at home on Monday, January 22nd, in an ICC non-division game.
