WRESTLING
Chambersburg takes 2nd place: The Trojans brought home eight individual medals and placed second as a team as the Southern Tier Memorial Tournament finished up on Saturday at First Arena in Elmira, N.Y.
“I was pretty happy with the kids,” Trojan coach Matt Mentzer said. “They’re getting better, not just one or two of them, but all of them.”
Aiden Hight was the only champion for Chambersburg and he did it in a big way at 215 pounds. He had pins of 0:56, 1:00, 3:23, 0:24 and then 0:52 in the final over Ryan Casella of South Williamsport.
Mentzer said, “The kid he had in the final is ranked in the top 10 in 2A (in PA), but he went upper body with Aiden, and Aiden did what he does.”
Zach Sherman was the runner-up at 124, falling 9-1 to Chase Nevill of Copenhagen, N.Y. in the final. In his semifinal bout, he went into overtime, outscoring Cameron Garcia of Bellefonte 6-2 before pinning him.
“Sherm was wrestling up a few pounds and he didn’t have a weak kid in his bracket,” Mentzer. “He looked good.”
Cody Seabolt placed third at 101, with 5 pins, and Logan Mickey was third at 138. Mickey had an escape and takedown in the second period to go up 3-0 on Jacob Kennedy of St. Anthony, N.Y. in a 5-3 win.
Placing fourth were Ashton Romberger at 131 and Jaccob Stoner at 190, who had four pins. Tyler Frye also took 7th at 145 after dropping his first bout and Frank Barrientos took 8th at 285.
Mentzer said, “Stoner knocked off several higher seeds to get to the semifinals and Romberger and Mickey won some close matches. Seabolt got to wrestle in his best weight class and got five pins. Even guys like (Isiah) Tasker and (Zethan) Sleighter) won a couple of matches — Tasker beat the No. 2 seed in the consolations.”
Chambersburg scored 177.5 points to place second behind Tioga, N.Y., which had 256.5. Athens was third (152.5) and Bellefonte was fourth (137.5).

BOYS BASKETBALL
Lampeter-Strasburg 62, Chambersburg 38: Coming off a big win on Friday night, the Trojans suffered a big letdown Saturday afternoon and dropped a non-league game against the Pioneers in the Hoops for Harmony showcase event at York Tech.
The 38-point total was 9 points fewer than the previous low for Chambersburg (9-3).
Trojan coach Shawn Shreffler said, “I don’t know how much last night’s emotional win over CD was a factor, but we did not do a lot of things we had been doing lately. But I give L-S a lot of credit. They played extremely well and beat us in every aspect of the game. They were very efficient on offense and forced us into numerous mistakes.”
Chambersburg, which had a five-game win streak halted, had only one player in double figures, J.J Kelly with 11. Jermere Jones was next with 7 points.
For Lampeter-Strasburg (8-5), ranked No. 12 in Class 5A, Chase Smucker scored 19 points, Dean Herr 15 and Justin Glick 12.
“We’ll bounce back on Monday and have a great practice in preparation for Harrisburg (on Tuesday),” Shreffler said.
