Blazer girls’ strong start leads them to victory

The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers piled up a double-figure lead in the first quarter and rolled to a 49-32 victory over Faith Christian Tuesday in a Mason Dixon Christian Conference girls basketball game.

The Blazers (5-4, 3-1 MDCC) led 17-7 at the end of the first quarter and 31-15 at the half. They held Faith to single-digit scoring in every quarter but the fourth.

Victoria Price scored 17 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead the Blazers in both categories. Julia Waltz contributed 11 points.

“We got off to a really hot start scoring 17 points in the first,” Blazers coach Corey Collins said. “Victoria and Julia really got us going by attacking the basket and knocking down shots. I thought we were able to move the ball well against their defense and get it into the high post. It was our highest scoring output so far, and it’s exciting to see the team continue improving.”

Also for the Blazers, Makenna Morris contributed seven points and three assists, Reagan Witmer scored five points, Addison Teal had four points, Sydney Wiegand scored two points and handed out a team-high seven assists, Haven Moats scored two points and grabbed seven rebounds, and Kaitlyn Garvin scored one point.
