Southern Fulton took on Berkeley Springs in the championship game of their annual Holiday Tournament and beat the host 29 – 25 to win the title.
The Indians (6-2, 1-0 ICC South), trailed 9 to 7 at half time but took a 1 point lead into the 4th period 16 to 15. The game went back and forth but Southern Fulton’s Trentin Cain came up with a loose ball with just under 2 minutes remaining in the game and kicked it ahead to Hunter Ward for a layup and a 26 to 25 lead. The Indians then got a stop and closed out the game for the win.
Coach Jeremy Hann commented, “Points were hard to come by early in this game but we need to credit our defense for what they did. We have been working non-stop on that part of our game and it paid off. Defense traveled tonight when our offense didn’t”.
Southern Fulton was led by Tournament MVP Hunter Ward with 12 points, and 1 block. All Tournament Selection Jett Burger had 6 points, and 7 rebounds. All Tournament Selection Ethan Mellott had 4 points, and 4 rebounds. Sammy Stotler had 4 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals. Trentin Cain added 2 points, and a block.
Southern Fulton next plays at Tussey Mt, in a non-division ICC match up, on Wednesday, January 3rd at 6:00 p.m.
