Chambersburg roundup: Boys advance to tournament final

BOYS BASKETBALL
Chambersburg 76, Red Land 69: The Trojans spread the wealth on offense and scored enough points to hold off the Patriots in a first-round game of the West York Holiday Invitational on Thursday night in York.

Grayson Kegerreis

Chambersburg (5-2), which snapped a two-game losing skid, will face either host West York or Governor Mifflin in the final Friday afternoon at 3:30. Red Land (7-3) will play the loser of the other first-round game.

“I would imagine it was a fun game to watch,” Trojan coach Shawn Shreffler said. “Our pace was really good and we shared the ball, which led to an extremely balanced and efficient effort.

“We played a really solid first half, but an even better second half. Red Land is a very good basketball team and we got a great effort from them.”

The top scorer for Chambersburg was sophomore Grayson Kegerreis, who erupted for a career-high 19 points — his previous high had been 4 points. Kegerreis bombed in four 3-pointers.

Jermere Jones was next with 18 points, while Colton Cornwell (also 4 threes) and J.J. Kelly each contributed 14 points.

Shreffler said, “Our inexperienced players are coming along and we’re developing more depth throughout the lineup. Getting stops defensively continues to be a point of emphasis.”

The Patriots also put 4 players in double figures — Colton Rose (20 points), Tyler Kerlin (17), Anderson French (13) and Elijah Espnosa (10).

Chambersburg (3-7) halted a three-game losing streak.

For the Trojans, Emily Forrester led with 15 points, T.T. Kelly put up 12 and Riley Evans scored 10. Bree Paetow chipped in with 7 points.

“Emily had a double-double, while T.T. and Riley each had nine rebounds,” Chambersburg coach Jamiur King said. “T.T. gave us a spark both days and was named to the All-Tournament team.

“Our guards handled pressure a lot better today. We needed a win. Minus yesterday, we feel like we’ve been in most if not all of our games.”
