How often do you score 18 points in a basketball game, which doubled the opposition’s output, have only six points entering the fourth quarter and come away with a win. That is exactly what Southern Fulton did Thursday night at Southern Huntington County in a cross-division ICC game. The Indians (4-2, 1-0 ICC South) defeated SHC 18-9.
The Indians had a 4 to 3 lead at the end of the first quarter and added 2 more in the 2nd to take a 3 point lead to halftime.
The 3rd period was another slow scoring affair with Southern Huntington scoring 4 points and the Indians coming up empty. In the 4th quarter, Southern Fulton came alive and outscored the Rockets 12 to 2, winning the contest 18 to 9.
Coach Jeremy Hann commented, “They wanted to sit in a 2-3 zone in the first half and not come out of it. We had the lead, so I just felt like we didn’t need to engage if packing it in, and standing there, was their plan. To start the 3rd, they held it a bit, maybe thinking they were having a hard time scoring, but then in the 4th, they had to go man and we closed them out”.
Southern Fulton was led by Sam Stotler with 7 points and 3 steals. Hunter Ward had 5 points, and 2 rebounds. Ethan Mellott had 2 points, and 7 rebounds. Trenton Cain had 2 points and 3 rebounds. Paul Hendershot added 2 points and 2 rebounds.
Southern Fulton next plays Legacy Christian, at the Berkeley Springs Holiday Tournament on Wednesday, December 27th at 6:00 p.m.
