MILL HALL — Aiden Hight was a runner-up and Chambersburg placed 13th at the King of the Mountain Tournament at Central Mountain on Friday and Saturday.

Four Trojans earned medals in the 30-team event. They scored 89 points, while the host school, Central Mountain, won the team title with 196 points.

Hight, a North Dakota State commit, advanced to the final with a bye, a technical fall, a major decision and an 8-4 semifinal win over Rocco Serafini of Central Mountain, in which a reversal and takedown in the third period clinched it.

In the final, he met up with Dillon Bechtold of Owen J. Roberts (in a preseason ranking, Bechtold was No. 1 and Hight No. 2 in the state) and the pair brewed up a wild first period that ended with a Bechtold pin in 1:46.

Hight tossed Bechtold down and almost locked up a headlock, but Bechtold got out with no points being awarded. Then Bechtold scored a takedown and nearfall for a 5-0 lead. Hight escaped and took Bechtold to his back for two and two, tying the score 5-5.

After a Bechtold escape, Hight tried an inside trip, but Bechtold won the battle and put Hight on his back again, and eventually scored the fall.

Chambersburg coach Matt Mentzer said, “That was a really fun match for the fans and coaches. They both came out throwing haymakers. There were three or four throws in the first period and the crowd was oohing and aahing.”

Those two will likely be the No. 1 and 2 seeds at the Trojan Wars Tournament in Chambersburg on Dec. 29-30.

The other Chambersburg placewinners included Ben Hoover at 107 and Zach Sherman at 121, who were both in sixth place, and Frank Barrientos, who took eighth at 285.

Hoover fell 4-2 to Andrew Alexander of Mifflin County in the bout for fifth place, with Alexander getting the winning takedown at 0:28. Sherman was edged 5-4 by Caiden Harbert of West Allegheny, who took Sherman down with 0:35 left to take the lead. Barrientos fell 1-0 to Cam Danna of West Allegheny with a third-period given escape the only point.

Mentzer said, “I thought our whole group of nine kids acquitted themselves very well all weekend. None of our kids had a losing record, and we were in the top 10 for most of the weekend.”
