The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers rode their aggressive press to a big first-half lead and defeated New Life Christian 37-11 Tuesday evening in a Mason Dixon Christian Conference girls basketball game.
The Blazers (3-3, 1-1 MDCC) managed only five points in the first quarter but still led 5-0. They completely throttled the Rams in the second quarter with their press by creating turnovers that led to a 23-0 advantage before New Life scored in the period’s final minute.
“We started slowly in the first quarter,” Blazers coach Corey Collins said. “Kaitlyn (Garvin) and Braelyn (Posey) came in off the bench to start the second quarter and caused havoc defensively. We were able to force a ton of turnovers and get ourselves a good lead.”
They expanded the cushion to 35-4 by the end of the third quarter.
Makenna Morris scored 10 points to lead the Blazers. Victoria Price added seven points and seven rebounds, Julia Waltz scored five points, Garvin and Addison Teal each contributed four points and six rebounds, Sydney Wiegand added three points and three assists, and Haven Moats and Ava Fager each scored two points.
