STEPHENS CITY, Va. – The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers outscored Eukayara Christian 17-5 in the final quarter and came away with a 58-43 victory Thursday in a non-league boys basketball game.
“I thought we played well,” Blazers coach Austin Sanders said. “Our defensive pressure was good, and we forced them to make mistakes, which turned into offensive opportunities for us. The fourth quarter was good for us, and we were able to pull away with good defense and balanced offense. This team has so much potential; we just need to fix a couple of things in practice and continue to have the mindset of getting better each day. As of right now, we are on the right track.”
The Blazers (3-1) led 27-26 at halftime and 41-38 at the end of the third quarter before pulling away.
Josh Rudy netted 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Blazers. Reece Hunsberger scored 16 points and added three assists. Also for the Blazers, Zack Mace added 11 points, Thomas Garvin scored seven, and Garrett Scheeler and Gabe Beckering (three assists) each added two points.
The Blazers shot 41.5% from the field, made 12 steals and cut down on their turnovers, committing only 11. Eukayara held a 32-29 edge in rebounding.
