GIRLS BASKETBALL
Chambersburg 52, Shippensburg 21: The Trojans took an early lead and ran away from the Lady Greyhounds in a first-round game of the Northern York Tournament on Friday night to open their season with a bang.

Chambersburg will face host Northern in the championship game on Saturday at 3 p.m. The Polar Bears beat East Pennsboro in the other first-round game; Ship and East Penn will play tomorrow at 1:30.

Freshman Emily Forrester paced the Trojans with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Ella Parker added 12 points, Bree Paetow had 7 and Riley Evans and T.T. Kelley each scored 6.

Trojan coach Jamiur King said, “Hailey Frankhouser set the tone early by bringing an infectious energy. She was able to get several deflections; she was diving and getting her hands on everything, and the rest of the girls followed suit.

“Emily Forrester also had 2 steals and a block and she played comfortably. Ella Parker had a solid 12 points. Riley Evans fouled out, but in the first three quarters she provided us with a post presence, and had 5 rebounds.”

For Shippensburg, Alyssa Trn scored 7 points.

Chambersburg led 18-6 after one quarter, then took a 27-8 halftime advantage.

King said, “We used our height and our full-court pressure to extend our lead to 12 by the end of the first quarter. And we had a total of 32 rebounds. I’m excited to start 1-0.”
