27 area players named as Mid Penn 1st team all-stars

The Mid Penn Conference released its slate of all-stars for the 2023 fall season on Thursday afternoon.

A total of 27 players from Franklin County and one coach were honored by the league with first-team accolades, player of the year or coach of the year awards.

Chambersburg senior Michael Cespedes was named the Commonwealth Division Player of the Year in boys soccer, despite being injured for the last third of the season.

Haley Noblit closed out her excellent career for the Greencastle-Antrim girls soccer team by sharing co-Player of the Year honors with Olivia Goretski of Northern York.

In girls volleyball, G-A’s Lily Kauffman, a senior middle hitter,  was selected the Player of the Year in the Colonial.

Aric Bruner, who coached the Greencastle boys soccer team to a division championship, was named Colonial Division Coach of the Year. And Jackie Ulmer of Shippensburg was named Coach of the Year in girls volleyball in the Colonial.

Also noteworthy: Parker Funk, a senior from G-A, was named first team on defense (DL) and offense (OL) in football for the Colonial Division.

Also making the first team in football in the Colonial were Greencastle’s Trent Merillat (DB) and Andrew Bowers (PK), and Shippensburg’s Cody Wenner (LB).

In boys soccer, joining Cespedes on the Commonwealth first team were Trojan teammates Mario Wiesman and Cristian Lopez, both forwards. Colonial first-teamers included Greencastle’s Ethan Ford (GK), Caleb Baine (mid) and Ewan Coy (mid), and Ship’s Garrett Courson (att mid) and Luke Lehman (def).

In the Colonial in girls soccer, Noblit’s teammate Abbey Wolfe was named first team on defense and Izzy Hoffeditz of James Buchanan was picked at goalkeeper. Waynesboro’s Nikki Davis and True Benshoff, both midfielders, earned first-team honors in the Keystone Division.

Addi Kegerreis of Chambersburg made the Commonwealth first team in girls volleyball as an outside hitter.
