NEWVILLE — A trio of Greencastle-Antrim runners performed very well Saturday at the District 3 Class 3A Cross Country Championships.
In the girls race, Claire Paci ran the 5,000-meter course at Big Spring H.S. in 18:28.8 to finish as the runner-up behind Hempfield’s Ella Wolfe, who blitzed the course in 18:00.3.
“Claire ran a good race to get the runner-up spot,” Blue Devil coach Rich Secrest said. “It will be exciting to see her go for something nice next weekend at states (Saturday at Hershey).”
Also for the girls, Katherine Board placed 69th in 21:34.2.
In the boys race, G-A’s Hayden Parks placed third in the boys 3A race, followed closely by teammate Joel Amstutz in seventh place. Parks ran a time of 16:00.8 and Amstutz crossed the line in 16:17.5. The winner was Adam Kingston of Manheim Township in 15:41.4.
Secrest said, “Hayden looked controlled the entire race and moved up in some very good competition. Joel ran out of his mind and placed in the top 10. He seems to peak at the right time.
“I’d like to see all three improve on their best state performances next weekend. All three are as strong as they have ever been; it’s up to them to race tough.”
