Blazers place 3rd in MDCC

The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers emerged from the Mason Dixon Christian Conference postseason tournament with a third-place trophy.

The Blazers (19-4-1) earned the prize by beating Faith Christian 2-0 Saturday in the MDCC consolation game. Shalom Christian defeated Grace Academy 4-1 in the championship game.

“We controlled the game,” Blazers coach Stan Hott said. “Our midfield did a good job of deleting the Faith midfield. Caleb Decker, player of the game, played a well-rounded game at center back.”

The Blazers took a 2-0 halftime lead and kept Faith under control throughout the game. Finlay Smith and Lachlan Smith provided the goals, and Gage Brookens and Cort Stouffer added assists.

Goalkeeper Gabe Beckering made 14 saves.

The Blazers take on Mercersburg Academy on Thursday before heading to Tennessee next week for their annual trip to the National Association of Christian Athletes (NACA) tournament.
