Kevin Demory

Last week: The Trojans (4-4, 2-3 MPC, ranked No. 9 in District 3 6A) won a thrilling 34-33 overtime game over CD East … The Cougars (7-1, 5-0 MPC, No. 2 in District 3 6A) — ranked No. 7 in the state by MaxPreps — manhandled State College, 20-0.
The opponent: Harrisburg put itself in great position to win the Commonwealth by beating the Little Lions last week … QB Shawn Lee is a dual threat — he’s passed for 1,355 yards (82-for-115, 71%), with 17 TDs and 3 picks … Lee is also the second-leading runner, with 748 yards and 8 scores on 79 carries … Nehemiah Ewell has 723 yards on 84 carries and 8 TDs … Elias Coke leads the receivers with 26 catches 636 yards and 9 TDs, while Quincy Brannon has 21 for 289 and 5 scores.
Coach’s view: Trojan coach Mark Luther said, “The key for Harrisburg is Lee — he’s the one that makes everything go. The Brown kid at tackle (Kevin Brown, 6-5, 243) is an animal, and their receiver (Coke) both have several offers for college. They don’t do a lot of crazy stuff, they just line up and beat you. They basically say, ‘We know that you know what we’re going to run and we’re just better than you.’ Their defense is just a simple 4-4-3, but their D-line gets off the ball well and everybody else runs to the ball.”
Unsung: DE’s Kevin Demory (jr., 6-3, 210) and Jude Grillo (jr., 6-2, 200) … “Demory did some good things, holding the edge and getting down the line of scrimmage,” Luther said. “Grillo came back from an injury and had a solid game. He helped us slow down their run game. When those guys do their job, it really helps everybody else on defense.”
Stats: Passing — Riley Harmon 99-for-173 (57%), 1,338, 11 TDs, 5 int. … Rushing — Imani Watson 43-180, 2 TDs; Antonio Harrison 50-163, 2 TDs; Dayre Senft 51-132, 1 TD … Receiving — Rhaigeon Parker 26-417, 4 TDs; Jermere Jones 22-323, 2 TDs; Trever Luther 23-299, 1 TD; Jake Folmar 16-167, 3 TDs; Andy Jean 11-178, 1 TD.

Sal Bangura

Last week: The Blue Devils (6-2, 3-2 MPC, ranked No. 10 in District 3 5A) had their best game in several weeks, taking out Gettysburg, 37-20 … The Wildcats (3-5, 2-3 MPC, No. 19 in 5A) produced a 35-31 victory over Waynesboro.
The opponent: Mechanicsburg had lost 3 games in a row before last week’s win over the Indians … They ealier played Susquehanna Twp. tough in a 14-13 defeat … QB Eli Reider hit on 22 of 40 passes last week, for 339 yards and 5 touchdowns … Josh Smith had 7 catches for 153 yards for 3 TDs and Henry Notarfrancesco had 5 for 61 yards and 2 scores.
Coach’s view: “About 85% of Mechanicsburg’s plays are passes,” G-A coach Devin McCauley said. “They try to spread you out and throw the ball around. We do have some strength at the back end of the defense and our pass rush as well. But they give you a lot of different looks, so it’ll be a real challenge for us. We did well in the run game last week and that was a confidence-builder for us. I know the guys have looked at the power rankings and we’re treating this like a playoff game — we know we need to win this game. A lot of (other sports) teams in Greencastle are having great seasons and we want to have one, too. We need to bring the energy on Friday.”
Unsung: DE Sal Bangura (sr., 6-4, 255) … Bangura has proven to be a nice sidekick to Parker Funk, putting up 6 sacks and 10 tackles for loss … McCauley said, “He’s played really solid, fundamentally sound football. He’s getting to learn his gap responsibilities and he’s playing at a high level. He’s getting some looks from Ivy League schools and some others.”
Stats: Passing — Logan Alvey 80-for-127 (63%), 921 yards, 7 TD, 3 int. … Rushing — Xzavier Ramsey 87-502, 5 TDs; Carter Coons 43-357, 4 TDs; Surzano Solomon 44-339, 4 TDs … Receiving — Carter McCauley 25-405, 3 TDs; Garrett Blubaugh 9-124, 1 TD; Coons 15-110, 1 TD; Solomon 13-85 … Tackles — Trent Merillat 76; Funk 72; Logan Shifflett 64 … Tackles for loss — Funk 12; Bangura 10 … Sacks — Funk 11, Bangura 6 … Interceptions — Blake Diller 2.
