G-A roundup: Field hockey team waxes Maidens, 5-0

FIELD HOCKEY
Greencastle-Antrim 5, Waynesboro 0: The Blue Devils shut the Maidens out for the second time this season in a Mid Penn Colonial game on the road Tuesday afternoon.

Alishya Thurmond led the offense with two goals and an assist for Greencastle (3-9, 3-5 MPC).

“When our players can look up, connect, and continue with forward movement, we can apply pressure that enables us to see the back of the cage,” G-A coach Lorraine Hohl said.

Also scoring for the Blue Devils were Annika Gaus, Aiyanna Gonyea and Jensen Keefer, while Keefer and Kelsey Beauchamp added assists.

Greencastle-Antrim 3, Gettysburg 1: The Warriors broke a streak of six consecutive 3-0 win for the Blue Devils, but G-A still claimed a Mid Penn Colonial victory at Gettysburg on Tuesday evening.

Gettysburg jumped to a 25-22 win in game 1, but the Blue Devils (8-1, 7-1 MPC) responded to the challenge with wins of 25-21, 25-14 and 25-19.

Alaina Garling put together a stat-filled night, with 11 service points, 13 digs and 22 assists, as did Brianna Woodring with 15 points — including 9 aces — and 9 digs.

Also for Greencastle, Wren Roberts had 14 points and 11 digs, Masalyna Miller had 8 kills, Lily Kauffman had 10 kills, Emma Pool had 8 kills, Abby Eagler came up with 8 digs and Kylie Kerns chipped in 18 assists.

Greencastle-Antrim 8, Big Spring 0: Five players got into the scoring act to help the Blue Devils subdue the Bulldogs in a Mid Penn Colonial game Tuesday evening at Kaley Field.

Haley Noblit led the charge with 3 goals and 2 assists, Brooke Guthrie scored 2 goals and added an assist, Maddie Coons and Shaina Overcash each scored a goal and contributed an assist, and Bailey Hurley added an assist.
