Chambersburg 4, Red Land 1: The Trojans swept the singles matches and collected their first victory of the season Wednesday afternoon in a non-league contest on the road against the Patriots.
At No. 1, Sarah Vessah needed three sets to down Maura Duvall, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1. At No. 2, Charlie Kalathas swept Zoie Zeiders, 6-1, 6-1, and Reese Miller took care of Natalie Ritchey, 6-0, 6-1.
The Trojans (1-2) also won at No. 1 doubles, when Ashlee Barrett and Marley Christopher took down their opponent, 7-5, 6-1.
The No. 2 doubles team of Leah Wadel and Shelby Newman were defeated 7-5, 6-2.
FIELD HOCKEY
State College 6, Chambersburg 1: The Trojans took on a strong Little Lions team at Trojan Stadium on Wednesday afternoon and were defeated in a Mid Penn Commonwealth game.
“State College is a great program with a lot of talented girls,” Chambersburg coach Kelsey Baker said. “I was pleased with how the girls played and happy we put one score on the board.
“The girls have improved a lot and we still have our work cut out for us, so we are going to continue to work hard.”
The Trojans (0-2, 0-1 MPC) collected a goal when Jaxin Frazer knocked a shot into the goal — her second score of the season. She was assisted on the play by Morgan Smith.
