Pope John Paul II at Chambersburg
Data: Friday, 7 p.m. at Trojan Stadium … Non-league game.
Last year: The Golden Panthers were 10-2 … Chambersburg was 3-7.
The opponent: Pope John Paul II is a Class 4A school in District 1 which plays in the Frontier Division of the Pioneer Athletic League … The Golden Panthers have a 6-8, 310 transfer, Kevin Heywood, who has committed to Wisconsin … Luke Terleski returns at quarterback and the top running back is Boyd Skarbek.
Coach’s view: Trojan coach Mark Luther said, “We’re facing a very good team with high expectations, and I want to see how our kids respond. If we can win, it could be a precursor to having a successful season. They have two good tackles on the line, the quarterback throws a nice ball and their back really runs hard. On defense, they man up, play seven guys at the line and they’re aggressive. It will be a big challenge for us.”
Big Spring at Greencastle-Antrim
Data: Friday, 7 p.m. at Kaley Field … Non-division game.
Last year: The Blue Devils finished 5-5 … Big Spring was 4-6.
The opponent: The Bulldogs return a pair of veteran running backs in Connor Green (943 yards, 10 TDs) and Grant Hall (684 yards, 9 TDs) … The quarterback, Chase Hope, has good size (6-3, 195) … Big Spring plays in the Mid Penn’s Capital Division.
Coach’s view: G-A coach Devin McCauley said, “Big Spring is always a physically tough football team. The main back (Green) is not really big (5-9, 180), but he has a ton of speed. We get to start the year at home, and that’s always nice. We’re tired of just practicing — kids and coaches. We have a lot of kids who haven’t played in a varsity game, so you never know what will happen when the lights come on.”
