Power and strong pitching lead Greencastle to fourth straight win

Greencastle 11-12 All Stars came out swinging in the first inning and jumped out to a quick 3-0  lead and rolled to an 11-3 win over South Middleton Wednesday night at Newville in the first game of the District 14 Double Elimination Tournament.

Greencastle will play Shippensburg who defeated Carlisle 11-0 in a second round game Thursday night. Following the game word was received that the sites for Thursday’s  games have changed. Greencastle will play Shippensburg at Newville at 7:00 p.m. while the Carlisle-South Middleton game will be played at Carlisle at 7:00 p.m.

Kolston Piper lead off the top of the first with a single, with one out Braden Knable produced a run scoring double to give Greencastle a 1-0 lead. Nate Herrmann followed with a two run homer to put Greencastle up 3-0.

Bradyn Knable hit the first pitch in the bottom of the fourth over the center field fence to put Greencastle up 4-0.

Greencastle made it 6-0 in the fifth on an RBI single by Jeremiah Murray and a sacrifice fly from Piper.

South Middleton got a run back in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI ground out from Josh Simmons.

Greencastle erupted for five runs in the top of the sixth. Knable lead off with his second homer of the night to make 7-1, RBI singles from Eli Wingert and Tucker Mongan made it 9-1, Jordan Beaver’s two run single made it 11-1.

A two run single from Jacob Primrose made it 11-3 in the bottom of the sixth.

Jordan Beaver went the first 3 2/3 innings to pick up the win for Greencastle, he did not allow run, gave up three hits, no walks and struck out six.

The Greencastle vs. Shippensburg game on Thursday will be broadcast on Mid Penn Broadcasting beginning at 6:45 p.m.

Greencastle’s 9-10 team defeated Newville 13-0 and will play at South Middleton Thursday night at 7:00 p.m.

The Greencastle Senior League team lost to Downingtown West 9-0 in the first game of a best of three and the second game will be played Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at Thorndale. The third game if necessary will be played following Game 2.
