Greencastle rallies to defeat Shippensburg

Greencastle 11-12 All Stars overcame a four run first inning by Shippensburg and came from behind to win 6-5 Thursday night at Newville,

Things did not start well for Greencastle, in the top of the first a lead off walk and two errors loaded the bases for Shippensburg, AJ Newling had an RBI single, a Greencastle error on the play gave Shippensburg a 2 -0 lead. A wild pitch made it 3-0. Camden Robertson followed with an RBI single to give Shippensburg a 4-0 lead.

Greencastle put a run on the board in the bottom of the second. Tucker Mongan lined a double to start the inning, Mongan advanced to third on a ground out, and the scored on an RBI ground out by Jordan Beaver to make it 4-1.

Shippensburg came right back in the top of the third with an RBI single from Blake Truett to put Shippensburg up 5-1.

In the bottom of the third Greencastle loaded the bases on two errors and a hit batter and Bradyn Knable followed with a two run double to cut the gap to 5-3.

The first two batters were retired in the bottom of the fourth, then Dawson Mellot and Jordan Beaver singled, Jackson Barkdoll walked to load the bases, a wild pitch made it 5-4 and then Eli Buhrman delivered the game winning hit,  a two run single to put Greencastle up 6-5.

Eli Wingert was perfect on the mound for Greencastle, entering the game with two outs in the bottom of the third, Wingert retired the final ten batters to pick up the win. Wingert struck out two and the defense was flawless behind Wingert.

Greencastle finishes 3-0 in West Pool Play and will play South Middelton Wednesday July 5 at Newville at 7:00 p.m. in the District 14 double elimination tournament. Shippensburg will play at Carlisle Wednesday July 5 at 7:00 p.m.
