Greencastle 11-12 All Stars win opener

The Greencastle 11-12 All Stars defeated Newville 9-2 in West Pool Play Wednesday night at Newville. Greencastle broke open a close game with a six run sixth inning.

Leading 3-2 going to the top of the sixth  Bradyn Knable hit a lead off homer to give Greencastle a 4-2 lead. The next two batters were retired but an error opened the door for Greencastle and they scored five more runs to blow the game open. Dawson Mellott RBI double made it 5-2, back to back walks loaded the bases and Jason Barkdoll ripped a two run double putting Greencastle up 7-2, run scoring singles from Nic Paris and jeremiiah Murray extended the lead to 9-2.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third when Kolston Piper hit a two out homer to put Greencastle up 1-0.

Nate Herrmann led off the fourth with a home run to make it 2-0 , Jordan Beaver doubled home another run giving Greencastle a 3-0 lead.

Newville battled back with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it 3-2.

Greencastle had 11 hits, as nine Greencastle players had at least one hit. Nic Paris and Levi McCarter each had 2 hits. Seven of the 11 Greencastle hits were for extra bases.

Elijah Wingert pitched the first four innings for Greencastle to pick up the win. Tucker Mongan pitched a scoreless fifth inning and Jeremiah Murray the sixth inning. Greencastle pitching combined for 13 strikeouts.

Greencastle will  play Pen Mar Monday night at 7:00 p.m. at Newville. The game will be broadcast on Mid Penn Broadcasting.
