The Southern Fulton Indians hosted the Fannett~Metal Tigers in the semifinals of the PIAA District 5 playoffs tonight. Indians freshman hurler, Owen Oakman had all the right stuff. The young righty hurler allowed zero runs, only 2 hits, struck out 3, and walked zero to pitch a complete game 72 pitch masterpiece for the 9-0 victory.
SoFo got things moving in the first inning, when Ethan Powell singled on a 2-2 count, scoring Kasey Fitz for the first run of the game.
Southern Fulton notched four more runs in the fourth inning. The offensive onslaught came from doubles by Kasey Fitz and Powell and a home run by Jett Burger.
Wade Appleby took the loss for Fannett Metal. Appleby allowed six hits and six runs over four innings, striking out one.
Southern Fulton Indians tallied two home runs on the day. Burger had a long ball in the fourth inning. Dane Harvey had a four bagger in the sixth inning. The Indians totaled nine hits. Powell, Fitz, and Burger all managed multiple hits for Southern Fulton Indians.
The Indians now advance to the District 5 Championship game to take on the upstart Meyersdale Raiders. The game is slated for 1pm on Wednesday, May 31 at Everett High School baseball field.
