Fannett-Metal (9-11) hosted Berlin in a non league contest and fell to the Mountaineers 11-4. The Tigers gave up 12 hits, 9 walks and committed 4 errors in the game. “We just didn’t play very good baseball today. We weren’t competitive on the mound and we had committed too many untimely errors”, Coffman said.
The Tigers did jump out to a 3-2 lead in the first inning. Drew Goshorn reached on a walk, stole second and moved to third on a passed ball. He scored on a Jake Coffman sacrifice fly. Landon Arnold then tripled and scored on a Broc Hostler two out RBI single. Hostler stole second and scored on Wade Appleby’s RBI single.
The Mountaineers tied the game in the second but the Tigers added a run in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead. Tucker Seibert scored on Jake Coffman’s two out RBI single up the middle. That would be the last lead of the day for the Tigers.
The Mountaineers added 2 runs in the 3rd, 3 runs in the 4th and 3 more runs in the 5th to go up 11-4.
The Mountaineers went to pitcher Ty Black in the third inning and he shut the Tigers down the rest of the way. The Tigers used five pitchers in the game with Daxten Detweiler suffering the loss.
Six different Tigers had hits in the game. Jake Coffman had a pair of RBI’s.
Fannett-Metal will return to action on Tuesday, May 23rd for a first round game in the District 5A Playoffs. Opponent TBA.
