Rt. 16 invite at G-A produces 4 stadium records

GREENCASTLE — The Antrim Way Honda Rt. 16 Last Chance Invitational was held at Kaley Field in Greencastle on Monday evening, giving local athletes a chance to improve their standing for league and district postseason meets.

Blake Mallast

A pair of meet and stadium records were broken by the Chambersburg boys and J.J. Kelly was involved in both. Kelly improved his personal best in the high jump by soaring 6-10 to better the meet record 6-9 set last year by Dakota Arana of Shippensburg.

The Trojans’ 4 x 100 relay team included Kason Besecker, Kelly, Blake Mallast and Antonio Harrison II, and they won in a record time of 42.46.

Other Chambersburg boys winners were Harrison in the 100, Jermere Jones in the 110 hurdles, Peter Mertz in the discus (an event swept by the Trojans) and Sedrick Vessah in the shop put.

The Greencastle boys had a strong day, winning every individual event on the track except one. Winners included Seth Stouffer (200), Iyshone Coleman (400), Caden Hudson (800), Dalton Noblit (1600) and Joel Amstutz (3200). Sawyer Brookens (javelin) and Ashton Botzan (pole vault) were also first-place finishers for the Blue Devils.

Shippensburg’s Trae Kater was the winner of the long jump and Jaylon Bean of Waynesboro had the best long jump. The Indians won the 4 x 800 and James Buchanan won the 4 x 400 relay.

Piper Linn

In the girls meet, the host Blue Devils came up with five victories — Claire Paci (400), Darcie Holdsworth (javelin), Bailey Hurley (discus), Jaylynn Schmuck (triple jump) and Piper Linn (pole vault). Linn’s 11-6 effort was a stadium record.

Chambersburg won the 4 x 100 and the Trojans’ Jaxin Frazer captured the long jump.

Shippensburg’s girls won the 4 x 400 relay in a stadium record of 4:06.29, while Alyssa Trn won the high jump. James Buchanan had one winner — Sydney Flaming in the 3200.

Waynesboro had four winners in the track — Jada Creager (100), Gracie French (200), Isabella Ruefle (800) and True Benchoff (300 hurdles).

Mercersburg Academy’s Ella Blanco won the 1600 race.
