Blue Devil boys finish unbeaten to win Colonial track & field title

GREENCASTLE — Greencastle-Antrim’s boys track and field team finished first in 15 of the 18 events Tuesday afternoon at Kaley Field to roll over Waynesboro 111-39.

The big win enabled the Blue Devils to wrap up an unbeaten season (6-0) and claim the Mid Penn Colonial Division championship.

“I thought we competed well across the board, as we have done all year,” G-A coach Devin McCauley said. “It’s always a team effort and something to be proud of being able to win the division in consecutive years.”

Aidan Horan picked up two victories in the field, taking the shot put in 43-9.5 and the discus in 113-4. Sawyer Brookens finished a sweep of the throws with a javelin toss of 149-6. Also in the field, Tavon Cooper won the long jump (20-6.5), Will Schaeffer was first in the high jump (5-8) and Ashton Botzan won the pole vault (12-6).

On the track, Seth Stouffer won the 100 in 10.8 and the 200 in 22.8, while individual wins were posted by Kyle Baker in the 1600 (4:32.5), Iyshone Coleman in the 400 (54.7), Bill Harper in the 300 hurdles (43.6) and Hayden Parks in the 800 (2:05.0).

The Blue Devils also won all three relays. The 4 x 800 team of Baker, Caden Hudson, Dalton Noblit and Parks (9:22.0), 4 x 100 team of Cooper, Botzan, Will Young and Trent Merillat (45.3) and the 4 x 400 team of Hudson, Aiden Blankenship, Stouffer and Harper (3:43.3) won their races.

McCauley said, “It was a tough weather day, but we were still able to pull off some PR performances and were able to utilize our depth pieces as well. It was a nice way to end the dual meet season and I feel like we have some positive momentum heading in to the postseason run.”

Jaylon Bean of Waynesboro won the triple jump and 110 hurdles.

Waynesboro 82, Greencastle 68: The Blue Devils won 10 events, but Waynesboro used a 57-30 advantage on the track to pick up a Mid Penn Colonial victory Tuesday afternoon at Kaley Field.

Greencastle coach Devin McCauley said, “I am proud of our girls team as they have continued to get better each meet. We have a lot of youth on this team and I am excited about their potential.

“Jaylynn Schmuck had a real nice PR in the triple jump (35-1) and Claire Paci had a dramatic anchor leg in the 4 x 400 to split 60.3. There were a lot of good things today across the board.”

Paci earned wins in the 800 (2:32.7) and 1600 (5:28.4) as well as anchoring the 4 x 400 relay team (with Hailey Baker, Aqueelah Lindsay and Kadence Abbott) that won in 4:25.9. Schmuck also won the long jump (15-8).

Bailey Hurley earned wins in the shot put (27-6.25) and discus (102-0). Also winning for the Blue Devils (3-3, 3-3 MPC) were Baker in the 400 (1:06.2), Piper Linn in the pole vault (10-8) and Darcie Holdsworth in the javelin (108-0).

True Benchoff won both hurdles events and Jada Creager won the 100 and 200 for the Maidens.
