Greencastle-Antrim 8, Hershey 5: The Blue Devils won for the fifth time in the last six games, taking a non-league home victory over the Trojans in Monday afternoon.
“We got behind Chambersburg (last Friday) and came back to win and we got behind Hershey 3-0 and came back,” Greencastle coach Eric Shaner said. “Some of the things that didn’t go our way early in the season are working out for us now.”
The Blue Devils (8-4) took the lead with a six-run fourth inning. A double to center by Carter McCauley, a walk to Logan Shifflett and a bunt single by Jerek Szaflaski loaded the bases. Austin Wyant then battled the pitcher in a nine-pitch at-bat before lining a base hit to right to drive in two runs.
Briggs Remenick walked to re-load the bases. Carter Reid hit a grounder to shortstop, but the throw home was offline and allowed a run to score. Ethan Ford brought in a run with a sacrifice fly and Aidan Grudzinski walked. Darren Kline hit a line drive off the pitcher for an RBI infield hit and McCauley finished off the scoring with another sac fly.
“Wyant’s at-bat was massive,” Shaner said. “And Grudzinski really grinded working that walk.”
Adam Horst pitched the first four innings, allowing three hits, and only one of his five charged runs was earned. Landon Huth then threw three innings of shutout, two-hit ball for a save.
