G-A roundup: Blue Devils record no-hitter in softball

Greencastle-Antrim 15, James Buchanan 0: The Blue Devils scored in all four innings and two pitchers combined to throw a no-hitter in a Mid Penn Colonial game in Mercersburg on Thursday afternoon.

Sophie Layton pitched the first 3 innings for Greencastle (3-0, 2-0 MPC) and Kaidyn Zimmerman threw one inning, and they combined for 3 walks and 7 strikeouts.

Leadoff hitter Sydney Orndorff did her job, going 3-for-4 and scoring 3 times, and G-A’s 3-4 hitters were on point — Makayla Jerin was 2-for-4 and drove in 5 runs, while Meadow Gambacurta went 3-for-4 and knocked in 2 runs.

Mackenzie Wingert drove in a pair of runs, and Jerin and Abby Stouffer each hit a double.

James Buchanan 6, Greencastle-Antrim 3: The Rockets got a solid pitching performance from Jacob Miller and knocked off the Blue Devils in a Mid Penn Colonial game in Greencastle on Thursday afternoon.

Miller tossed 6 innings and allowed 8 hits and 2 walks, but struck out 10 and gave up only 1 earned run.

For James Buchanan, Jimmy Bell and Hunter Blair were each 2-for-3.

For Greencastle (1-2, 0-2 MPC), Briggs Remenick was 3-for-4, which included a run-scoring double.

G-A coach Eric Shaner said, “I’m not sure how good we are right now … I guess we’ll find out.”
