Chambersburg roundup: Trojans boys topple ‘Boro

Chambersburg 42, Waynesboro 31: The Trojans spotted the Indians a first-quarter lead, then held ‘Boro to just 10 points total in the second half to picks up a big non-league victory Thursday night on Senior Night at CASHS Field House.

The win keeps Chambersburg (12-9) in the No. 9 ranking in District 3 Class 6A, while Waynesboro (19-3) drops to No. 5.

“It was more gritty than pretty,” Trojan coach Shawn Shreffler said. “We got a great effort from our guys against a really good and we-coached Waynesboro team. But we’ll take it.

“I thought our level of preparation coming into the game was really good. Credit to the staff and the guys for continuing to find ways to get better.”

Waynesboro led 12-7 after one quarter, but by the half, Chambersburg had taken a two-point lead. Jermere Jones scored all 7 of his points in the second period.

In the third, the Trojans held their opponent to just 4 points, and then only 6 in the fourth. J.J. Kelly led Chambersburg by scoring 8 of his 15 points in the second half.

“Our energy level got us going in the second quarter, and our defense was really solid in the second half,” Shreffler said. “It was an amazing crowd tonight, all dressed in white in honor of Eric Bender’s memory.

“The crowd also showed support to our fantastic group of seniors and managers. They are great representatives of our team and school.”

For the Indians, Ryan Shaffer scored 12 points and Cooper Hough added 9. Sedrick Vessah added 6 for Chambersburg.

Waynesboro 38, Chambersburg 33: The foul line proved to be the determining factor in a non-league game Thursday night at CASHS Field between the Trojans and the Maidens.

Waynesboro connected on 10 of 15 shots at the charity stripe. Chambersburg, meanwhile, made only 13 of 26 attempts, and that included a 6-for-8 effort by Ella Parker.

The Trojans (5-16), led 11-7 after the first quarter, but the Maidens (8-14) outscored their opponent 18-7 in the middle two periods.

Kylee Miller scored 8 points for Chambersburg and Bridget Kemerer added 7.

For Waynesboro, Kiera Pryor had 15 points and Slaydon Fisher added 11.
