GIRLS BASKETBALL
James Buchanan 56, Chambersburg 53: In a back-and-forth contest, the Rockets held a small edge in the fourth quarter and that was enough to defeat the Trojans in a game Saturday morning that kicked off a long list of games in the Hoops for Harmony showcase at CASHS Field House.
Mackenzie Stoner scored 24 points, including 9 in the final quarter, to lead the Rockets (11-4).
Stoner was 4-for-6 at the line in that period and the Rockets were 7-for-13 shooting foul shots in that period. On the other end, Chambersburg made only 3 of 12 free throws in the fourth and 9 of 20 for the game.
“Bree Paetow had her hands full on defense, guarding Stoner, who I’ve seen to be one of the best scorers and shooters in the area,” Trojan coach Jamiur King said, “and I couldn’t ask any more of her.”
Stoner also hit 4 of James Buchanan’s 9 threes, while Kaleigh Hartman had three on her way to 13 points and Sophia Stoner added 9 points.
For Chambersburg (2-12), Lily Cornwell drained five 3-pointers and tallied a career-high 19 points, 16 of which came in the second half. Kylee Miller contributed 13 points, 7 of which came in the fourth period.
King said, “We competed really well. Lily Cornwell gave us some big 3’s down the stretch and Kylee Miller gave us a great post presence.”

BOYS BASKETBALL
Chester 49, Chambersburg 47: The Trojans played the Clippers tough, holding a fourth-quarter lead and getting off a potential game-winning shot, but came up just short in the Saturday night finale of the Hoops for Harmony showcase at CASHS Field House.
Carter Fogal took a contested shot just before the buzzer, but it hit off the backboard and rim and bounced away.
“Although the main goal was to beat a really good Chester team, which we came very close to doing,” Chambersburg coach Shawn Shreffler said, “an equally important goal was to bounce back from last night’s subpar performance (loss to CD). We needed to give an effort that exemplified Trojan basketball, which we did in a big way.”
Chambersburg is now 8-6 after suffering its fourth defeat in the last five games. Chester, annually a state contender, is 7-6. It was the 2,000 win in the Clippers program history, one of only a handful of schools in the country to reach that mark.
J.J. Kelly led the Trojans with 15 points, Sedrick Vessah tallied 11, Jacob Bassham scored 9 and Aden Swatsburg produced a career-high 8. Terrence Cobb led the Clippers with 22 points.
Kelly (14 rebounds) and Vessah (9) helped Chambersburg to a 33-20 advantage on the boards.
Shreffler said, “We had much better focus and urgency throughout the game, which we must build upon.”
