Fannett-Metal(1-8) hosted the Bulldogs of Claysburg-Kimmel on Tuesday evening in an ICC Match-up and dropped a 67-65 heartbreaker. The Tigers held a 5 point lead and had possession with 1:20 to go in the game but couldn’t finish the job. The Tigers missed a shot and C-K drove down the court and scored. On the next two possessions the young Tigers turned the ball over and the Bulldogs converted two and one plays to take the lead. The Tigers couldn’t mount a rally and the Bulldogs escaped with the 67-65 victory.
” This was really the first time this season we have been in a situation like that late in the game and we just didn’t execute well enough at the end of the game. I need to have us better prepared to win in those situations”, Fannett-Metal Coach Paul Coffman said.
The Bulldogs jumped on the Tigers 7-0 in the first minute of play. The Tigers called a timeout, switched their defense and took a 12-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. Broc Hostler knocked down three treys in the opening quarter.
The teams traded baskets in the second quarter as the Tigers went into the half with a 25-24 lead.
The 3rd quarter was a high scoring affair as the Bulldogs knocked down five treys, three by Elias Ritchey to take a 50-49 lead at the end of three.
This set up the dramatic 4th quarter in which the Bulldogs took home the 67-65 victory. “We did a lot of good things in this game and we are getting better every week, we just didn’t finish well tonight. Give Claysburg credit, they made some big plays down the stretch and their guards played a nice game”, Coffman said.
Riley Martin had a big game for the Tigers with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Evan Wingert had 13 points and 9 rebounds. Hostler scored 16 points including four treys. Drew Goshorn had 8 points and 5 assists. Landon Arnold had a nice all around game with 9 points, 6 rebounds and 6 steals.
