Trojan boys use early surge to defeat West York, 55-42

WEST YORK — For the second straight night Friday, the Chambersburg boys basketball team got off to a great start at the West York Holiday Tournament.

And just like on Thursday, that start led to a victory, this time a 55-42 verdict over the host Bulldogs.

The Trojans (6-2) ran out to a 21-11 lead at the end of one quarter and they still led by 9 points at halftime.

“We had another great test tonight, playing a really good West York team on the road,” Chambersburg coach Shawn Shreffler said. “Our guys started the game really well and even though we had early foul trouble, guys came off the bench and continued our momentum.”

Jacob Bassham scored 7 of his 15 points in the first quarter and the Trojans had seven players contribute points in the first half.

In the second half, J.J. Kelly came alive for eight baskets and 16 of his 21 points to help the Trojans maintain the lead.

“As West York made a run in the second half, we made enough plays to maintain a comfortable lead,” Shreffler said. “Games like this will really help us moving forward.”

West York (6-3) got 26 points from Braedyn Detz.
