The Waynesboro Indians won their ninth consecutive game to start the season defeating host Mechanicsburg 53-43 in the opening round of the Sauve’ Brothers Holiday Tournament Tuesday night. The win moves Waynesboro (9-0) the number 3 ranked team in PIAA District 3 6A into the championship game against number 1 ranked Cumberland Valley (6-0) who defeated Selinsgrove 64-22.
Waynesboro came out strong hitting five three pointers in the first quarter to build a 22-14 lead and stretched that to a 31-21 at the half.
The Indians were lead by Michael Young with 16 points, Jaylon Bean with 15, Tanyon Shaull with 11. Ryan Shaffer and Cooper Haugh each had five points.
Waynesboro had seven three pointers. Bean had three, Young with two, and one each from Hough and Shaull.
Chance Yanoski had 19 for Mechanicsburg, Josh Smith added 12 and Seth Brubaker 9. The trio accounted for 40 of the 43 Wildcats points.
Waynesboro will have its biggest test of the season Wednesday night with Cumberland Valley. The game will be played at Mechanicsburg High School and will be live streamed on Mid Penn Broadcasting at approximately 7:15 p.m.
