GIRLS BASKETBALL
Greencastle-Antrim 52, Carlisle 32: The Blue Devils turned a close ballgame into a comfortable victory during a period spanning the third and fourth periods and won a non-league contest over the Thundering Herd at home Tuesday night.
In the final two seconds of the third, Mia Libby made a foul shot and missed a second. But Aubrey Smith snared the rebound and passed to Libby, who hit a jumper in the lane for a 34-25 lead.
The Blue Devils (3-0) then held Carlisle (1-2) scoreless for the first 4 minutes of the fourth and scored 12 to bump the lead to 46-25. Libby and Shaina Overcash made layups, Haley Noblit had a three-point play, Libby hit a jumper that bounced off the back of the rim and in, and Rylee Henson hit a 3-pointer.
“They prepared for us well and they picked apart our zone early,” G-A coach Mike Rhine said. “Then we went to our man-to-man and that worked. This was one of the harder 20-point wins we’ve had. Mia was sensational, Shaina battled well on defense and Meadow (Gambacurta) played well everywhere I put her.”
