Greencastle-Antrim 56, James Buchanan 34: The Blue Devils used a strong second-quarter and stifling defense to defeat the Rockets and claim the championship of the Greencastle Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday evening.

It was a one-point game after one quarter, but G-A pulled away to a 36-22 lead at the half by outscoring JB 23-10 in the second quarter.

A 3-pointer by Rylee Henson made it 32-20, and after a timeout, Greencastle spread out its offense with Libby running the point, and she delivered a three-point play.

In the second half, the Blue Devils’ defense did not allow a point for the first 4:42, and the Rockets’ first field goal came 10:55 into the half when Ainsley Green hit a 3-pointer. But right after that, G-A’s Meadow Gambacurta made a layup and Henson made a steal and a three-point play for a 50-27 lead.

Henson was named the tournament MVP; she had 18 points. Libby, who scored 25 points, also made the all-tournament team. For JB, Mackenzie Stoner led with 9 points and she and Campbelle Dayley made the all-tourney team.

For G-A, Libby had 5 assists, Henson made 5 steals, Ainsley Swindell scored 8 points and had 10 rebounds and Kylie Kerns pulled down 6 boards.

BOYS BASKETBALL
Greencastle-Antrim 55, Hanover 40: The Blue Devils put the game away in the first half and rolled to the championship of the James Buchanan Booster Club Tournament on Saturday night with a win over Hanover.

Greencastle (2-0) outscored the Nighthawks 18-6 in the opening period and 23-11 in the second to lead 41-17 at the half.

Logan Alvey scored 11 of his 14 points in the second quarter for the Blue Devils and Conner Wright tallied 11 of his 15 in the first half.

Eli Sterling and Blake Shadoan each added 9 points for G-A, which nailed 7 of its 8 3-pointers in the first half.

In the third-place game, James Buchanan was defeated 54-38 by Mifflin County. JB was led in scoring by Jayce Piper (15), Josh Kimmel (7) and Drew Crouse (6).
