Boys Soccer

4 area teams open PIAA play Tuesday

Three teams from Franklin County and one from Fulton County will begin play in their respective PIAA Championship Tournaments on Tuesday with first-round games.

In boys soccer, Chambersburg makes its debut in the state tournament. The Trojans (13-7), who are the No. 3 team from District 3, will take on District 1 champion Lower Merion (20-1) in Class 4A. The game will be held at Harriton H.S. in Bryn Mawr at 5 p.m.

In Class 1A, McConnellsburg (20-1), the District 5 champion, will host District 3 runner-up Mount Calvary (15-4-1) in a 7 p.m. game.

In 3A girls soccer, District 3 runner-up Greencastle-Antrim (19-2-1) will face District 11 champion Pottsville (13-5-2) at 6 p.m. at North Schuylkill H.S.

And in 3A girls volleyball, Greencastle-Antrim, which is the No. 3 team from District 3, makes its first appearance in the PIAA event with a match against District 6 champion Hollidaysburg (14-2) at Hollidaysburg H.S. at 7 p.m.

The only area football team still in action is Shippensburg (8-3). The No. 8 seed Greyhounds will travel to Lancaster County on Friday to take on No. 1 seed Solanco (10-0) in a District 3 Class 5A quarterfinal.
