G-A blanks York Suburban to earn 1st volleyball trip to states

GREENCASTLE — The Greencastle-Antrim girls volleyball team reached a milestone Thursday evening.

Brianna Woodring

The Blue Devils slammed the door on York Suburban in three games in a home match and the reward was third place in District 3 Class 3A, which qualified G-A for the PIAA State Tournament for the first time ever.

“The girls played relaxed and loose and it showed in the outcome,”  Greencastle coach Corry Eagler said. “I’m very proud of these girls for accomplishing what no other G-A volleyball team has done — first time qualifying for the state tournament!”

The Blue Devils (19-1) will play the District 6 champion, Hollidaysburg, in the first round of the PIAA event on Tuesday at Hollidaysburg.

No. 1 seed Greencastle won games of 25-18, 28-26 and 25-18 to swamp York Suburban, which finishes 15-5.
