Blue Devils roll to volleyball win to reach quarterfinals

GREENCASTLE — The No. 1 seed played like the No. 1 seed should.

And that meant trouble for No. 16 seed Boiling Springs, which met top-seeded Greencastle-Antrim on Tuesday night in a District 3 Class 3A first-round girls volleyball playoff match in Greencastle.

The Blue Devils completely dominated the match, winning the games by scores of 25-14, 25-8 and 25-10.

Greencastle (17-0) will now face No. 9 seed Manheim Central (13-6), which defeated Berks Catholic 3-2 on Tuesday, in a quarterfinal match in the G-A gym at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

“The girls looked great tonight,” Blue Devils coach Corry Eagler said. “They were composed, served tough and controlled the game from the start.”

It was Greencastle’s second win over the Bubblers (10-8) this year, both with 3-0 scores.

“We knew Boiling Springs pretty well from playing against them previously this season and we did a great job covering our hitters,” Eagler said. “I thought Madie Eagler did a great job all around, especially in defense and distributing the ball. Lily Kauffman took charge of the net and Abby Eagler and Bri Woodring’s serves were top notch.”

Abby Eagler dominated the stat book for G-A. She led her team in kills with 7, in service points with 13, in aces with 6 and added 7 digs.

Her strong serving was backed up by Madie Eagler (11 points), Ryleigh Davis (8) and Kate Furnish (8).

Kauffman also made 7 kills and added 3 blocks at the net. Kiley Burkholder had 4 kills and contributed six digs. Madie Eagler led in assists with 21 and also had six digs.

In addition, Davis led in digs with 11 and Woodring dug up 6 balls for Greencastle.
