G-A roundup: Soccer teams edge Gettysburg by 1 goal each

Maddie Koons

Greencastle-Antrim 1, Gettysburg 0, OT: The home team Warriors came close to giving the Blue Devils their only blemish of the season Monday night, but a goal in the first overtime period gave G-A a Mid Penn Colonial victory.

“It was a tough game,” Greencastle coach Chris Noblit said. “We were tested tonight, which I feel we really needed.  Hats off to Gettysburg, as they played incredible defense all night long.

“It took overtime to win. Haley Noblit scored the only goal of the game. It wasn’t more than 90 seconds into the first overtime when Maddie Koons slipped a beautiful pass through their defense and Haley took it to goal.”

The win moves Greencastle to 14-0, with a huge matchup Wednesday at Northern York (13-1).

Garrett Decker

Greencastle-Antrim 2, Gettysburg 1: The Blue Devils broke a 1-1 tie with a goal 4 minutes from the end to capture a Mid Penn Colonial victory over the Warriors at Kaley Field on Monday night.

Garrett Decker put G-A (10-4, 7-4 MPC) ahead with a penalty kick, but Gettysburg tied it with 14 minutes left. But with 4 minutes left, Decker’s throw-in was headed into the goal by Mitch Lagoe.

Ethan Ford made 6 saves for the Blue Devils.

Greencastle coach Aric Bruner said, “The boys responded to every situation thrown at them tonight on our senior night. We had a first-half goal taken off the board and then we continuously pushed until we finally earned a penalty kick call. We allowed a long ball through a few minutes after that (for Gettysburg’s goal), and then Mitch, on his senior night, put in a beautiful header off of a Decker throw-in.”
