YORK — The first day of the District 3 championships in golf was held Friday at Briarwood G.C. and five of the eight area players who competed were able to make the cut and advance to Saturday’s final round.

In the Class 3A girls tournament, Chambersburg’s Emily Rensch is in sixth place after shooting an 83. She had nines of 42-41, which included a birdie on No. 3.

Sydney Barnes of Greencastle is sitting in 10th place after posting an 89. Barnes was consistent, recording nines of 45-44, and she carded a birdie on No. 1.

The Trojans’ Emma Tolbert also made the cut — her 98 puts her in 16th place.

In Class 3A boys, Evan Stein of Waynesboro fired a 2-over par round of 74 and sits in a tie for fifth place. Stein had a blistering back nine of 34, helped by three birdies — on No. 14, 17 and 18.

The Indians’ Tyler Fortney shot 79 and he is in an 11-man tie for 30th place, which just made the cut on the number. He shot 41-38 and birdied No. 17.

Not making the cut were Chambersburg’s Jeremy Otto (87) and Shippensburg’s Mason Fogelsonger (87) for the boys, and Ship’s Ava Frontino (107) for the girls.
